Hot stone massage is a variation of classic massage therapy. It originated in the USA a couple of decades ago and was practiced in famous Spas. As a result to its ever increasing demand, this treatment became very quickly one of the most popular massage therapies worldwide.
Heated smooth, flat stones are used on the body in combination with traditional massage movements. The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of stone that is rich in iron, therefore ideal in retaining heat. The massage therapist always holds the stones first before bringing them in direct contact with the client’s body. This ensures that the temperature will not be too high.
The heat loosens and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.
* Massage on the Head, face & abdominal area is not included.
